“I want to succeed, but there were shortcomings that, sooner or later, would cost us dearly,” said the 24-year-old player regarding PSG’s mixed season. “I simply confirmed that I did not want to activate the additional year provided in the contract. With PSG, we never discussed an extension,” he added.

The French international footballer, who was coveted by Real Madrid in the past, revealed on Tuesday that he had never discussed an extension with his club, with which he is under contract until 2024. This decision has reignited all speculation about his future, including a possible transfer this summer, to avoid leaving without compensation in a year.

Messi’s Departure and Racism in Stadiums

Mbappé regrets the departure of Lionel Messi from PSG, “probably the best player in football history”. “It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves, I didn’t quite understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone,” he said. “We will have to do what is possible to replace him,” he added.

Finally, Mbappé spoke out against racism in stadiums following recent insults targeting Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan) in Italy and Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) in Spain. “We must all leave the field [when this happens]. If we leave, we will understand that the situation is serious. Complaining is no longer enough,” advised the French team captain, who wants “more solidarity among players.”
