China Reduces Airspace Closure Duration North of Taiwan

ASIA PACIFIC – Yan Yu-hsien, deputy chief of the general staff for intelligence at Taiwan’s defense ministry, said the “no-fly zone” would be located in the country’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ), about 85 nautical miles north of its coast. An ADIZ is a section of international airspace that countries can arbitrarily define as their own for monitoring purposes.

China Completes Military Drills Near Taiwan and Assesses Combat Skills

ASIA PACIFIC – The drills were announced on Saturday, following the return of Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen to Taipei after meeting with the US House of Representatives Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, in Los Angeles. China has never ruled out using force to bring the democratically governed island under Beijing’s authority. The Taiwanese government strongly disputes China’s claims and has condemned the drills.
